About

Gaudeamus Chamber Choir was established in October 2013 with the aim of encouraging, promoting and enhancing the performance of choral music within the Newry and wider Newry area.

Although our membership is primarily drawn from young musicians from Newry and surrounding areas, our focus and ambition is to bring our sound beyond this locality in a manner that will make a valuable contribution to choral singing within the region.

The word ‘Gaudeamus’ originates from the latin phrase ‘gaudeamus igitur’meaning ‘let us rejoice.’

Gaudeamus is guided by an ethos, which endeavours to challenge and strengthen the creativity of our members by emphasising the discipline of choral singing as well as the enjoyment and sociability that comes with performing in harmony.

Already the choir has carved out a reputation for performance and musicality of the highest standard and seeks to build upon this in the future.

The Choirs repertoire spans from early to contemporary music with an exerted focus on performing work by international composers still presently living and publishing choral works.
